"RIAA should be blocked from obtaining any data from schools ..." posted by ~Ray

BLish. -8/+3agreed i am against the RIAA also.. but.. i'm also against those who regularly use P2P networks to steal music movies software. & games... or as many of you who worship OiNk cd and other BitTorrent sites... "it's not stealing. it's file sharing" or as I have often heard... "it's not stealing if everyone is doing it".. that's one of my favorites actually theft is theft.. there's really no other argument pay for your shiat people! if you can't afford it.. then you don't need it! Outdoor83. -5/+3Very well put. If you don't like the price of CDs don't buy them. I hate people who justify filesharing the grounds that "the price isn't good." It's a weak justification that only goes far enough to say why you want to do it. Just tell it like it is: "I steal music because I don't want to pay for it/don't have the money." Easy enough. It makes you a jerk but at least you're honest with yourself and others. Divals. -0/+1If I could afford to buy music. I would. Maybe I just have an overly optimistic view of people. But if someone is too poor to buy music anyway their downloading it is not harming anyone. It doesn't take potential profits from the companies since they wouldn't be able to afford to buy the music anyway. It doesn't take anything away from anyone else.. so while the legality is shaky at best there's really nothing ethically wrong with it. That said if you're employed have disposable income and so on.. there's no reason to download music except to see if you like it and if you do go buy the album. andycr512. -0/+1"Yawn. Not really. You've deprived someone of a sale through copyright infringement."So if I walk into a store and convince someone not to buy something that they were trying to sell them. I just stole from the store? So if some pushy sales guy is trying to sell a poor grandmother a 3Ghz Core 2 Duo system for playing flash games I should just pipe down since I'm committing theft if I lose them the sale? What if it rains that day and she ends up ordering off dell's website instead? Did the weather steal from the store? I don't think so. You're also making the false assumption that the download to lost sale ratio is 1:1. VAPerson. -0/+1They'd be idiots to not remain anonymous. When defending yourself it is smart to give up as little information as possible. Do you think the student really wants to be identified so they can file a lawsuit against him/her and then seize his/her computer as evidence? The whole point of the student response is to remain anonymous and prevent the school from being forced to give up his/her info. wingo123. -0/+24I've been wondering about this very thing. I work at a University and everyone's always VERY concerned about FERPA a federal act which forbids any University employee from giving personal student information out to any third party. I wonder if you could apply FERPA also to the students' IP address? It may not be explicitly written into the act but I'd bet you could make a case that it falls under 'personal information'. Hmmmm... bingobongony. -1/+2And when the band doesn't make it do you really think that the record opanies garnish their wages at their realy jobs?It is clear that you don't know how it works otehr than reading Courtney Love's bitchfest. Yes. the record lables front hte money and get paid back 100% until the investment is paid up. The band gets none of it until that point. That is NOt the same as "The record company is giving them a loan." The record company takes a financial risk in signing new bands. New bans do NOt go into debt. They don't owe money if they fail. They just owe a lot of the revenue if they are successful. Kind of like a contigency lawyer. The lawyer takes the financial risks and gets a huge chunk of the payout. Actually that is like everything. The people that funded YouTube did NOT work on the site. Yet they colelcted almost a full billion dollars of the sale. If YouTube had failed the creators would not have OWED the venture capitalists anything. Same with music. Chan815. -0/+1my friend works in the tec department at NIU he told me that a few years ago NIU was targeted as one of the top schools with people downloading music so the RIAA set up a deal with our school saying that they would pay for all of the schools internet as long as they can monitor our p2p downloading and bittorent usage turns out they fully shut down our torrent usage which the tech department fought back saying that some people use it for coding etc... thats the gist of it.. yeah kinda sucks ryan83189. -1/+4The riaa are asses i dont pirate music but they seem to try so hard to bankrupt already broke college students and get them expelled. If you are a major up and down loader thats one thing but if your like most people trying out music to see what you like then legally downloading it they shouldn't go out of their way to catch you if they want some big piraters go to europe russia or china(mpaa) not the local college just because it's closer. naturemade. -0/+1I just can't imagine what the RIAA is hoping to accomplish with all these lawsuits? No one is stopping. I have never come across one person who has said to me: I don't download music because I am afraid of the RIAA. Most people don't even know what the RIAA is; but they are doing a wonderful job marketing themselves. Every time someone new learns of the RIAA it is in the context of a headline on a newspaper explaining how they are suing another dorm. Is the goal to scare people into paying for music or to just become one of the most detested organizations in the U. S so that even less people will pay for music? They are literally pissing me off to the point that I *will not* buy a single piece of music associated with them. I support Doe3 wholeheartedly and if ever starts a legal defense fund I will definitely be contributing.

"WCBA - Building BAs That Any Business Sponsor Would Fight To Have ..." posted by ~Ray

At the (WCBA). Cynthia Sniezak from Disney Parks described how Disney Park’s IT Academy “Builds BAs and PMs That Any Business Sponsor Would Fight To Have On Their Project.” First. I want to point that I love how Disney refers to all of their employees as Cast Members.  It clearly demonstrates that everyone is part of the ’show.’ Disney views talent management as a business differentiator and the mission of the IT Academy is to “alter our cast wildly successful.”  Disney uses an approach they refer to as HILL which is an acronym for: Cynthia also shared their “Leadership Framework At a Glance” which is a generic way to view all jobs on a consistent basis.  The key elements of the framework are: Delivery and Action (delivery initiative organizational stewardship) Personal Dynamics (flexibility and adaptability force and influence interpersonal understanding relationship building) Managing Others (developing others team leadership teamwork) Thinking and Solving Problem (analytical thinking conceptual thinking technical expertise) In terms of training the IT Academy makes sure that their training is consistent for both the project managers (PMs) and business analysts (BAs).  Their training is vendor-delivered () aligned with the PMBOK and BABOK and aligned with Disney business objectives.  The core PM training is 11 days with 6 days of electives which is completed during an employee’s first 12 to 18 months with Disney.  The BA training is a subset of the PM training. Cynthia also shared some of the tips that they use to reinforce training which includes laminated cheat sheets note cards and resources such as their internal BA group called BALOO and the external . ""We won't take it any more."" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-03-16 00:44:41

October 27. 2007 City & County Building. flavor Lake City. Utah communicate by Mayor Ross C. "Rocky" Anderson 11/15/07 "" -- - Today as we come together once again in this great city we increase our voices in unison to say to President Bush to Vice President Cheney to other members of the Bush Administration (past and present) to a majority of Congress including Utah's entire congressional delegation and to much of the mainstream media: "You have failed us miserably and we won't take it any more." While we had every reason to expect far more of you you have been pompous greedy cruel and incompetent as you have led this great nation to a moral military and national security abyss." "You have breached trust with the American people in the most egregious ways you have utterly failed in the performance of your jobs. You have undermined our Constitution permitted the violation of the most fundamental treaty obligations and betrayed the command of law. You have engaged in or permitted heinous human rights abuses of the sort never before countenanced in our nation's history as a matter of official policy. You have sent American men and women to kill and be killed on the basis of lies on the basis of shifting justifications without competent leadership and without even a coherent plan for this monumental blunder. We are here to express you: We won't act it any more! You have acted in enjoin contravention of values that we as Americans who love our country direct dear. You have deceived us in the most cynical outrageous ways. You have undermined or allowed the undermining of our constitutional system of checks and balances among the three presumed co-equal branches of government. You have helped bring about our nation to the brink of fascism of a dictatorship contemptuous of our nation's treaty obligations federal statutory law our Constitution and the command of law. Because of you and because of your jingoistic false 'patriotism,' our world is far more dangerous our nation is far more despised and the threat of terrorism is far greater than ever before. It has been absolutely astounding how you have committed the most horrendous acts causing such needless tragedy in the lives of millions of populate yet you wear your so-called religion on your sleeves asserting your God-is-on-my-side nonsense - when what you have done flies in the face of any religious or humanitarian tradition. Your hypocrisy is mind-boggling - and disgraceful. What move of "Thou shalt not kill" do you not understand? What move of the "Golden rule" do you not understand? What part of "be honest," "be responsible," and "be accountable" don't you understand? What part of "Blessed are the peacekeepers" do you not understand? Because of you hundreds of thousands of people have been killed many thousands of populate have suffered horrendous lifetime injuries and millions have been run off from their homes. For the sake of our nation for the sake of our children and for the sake of our brothers and sisters around the world we are morally compelled to say as loudly as we can. 'We won't take it any more!' " As United States agents kidnap disappear and torture human beings around the world you confirm you victimise and you cover up. We find what you have done to men women and children and to the good name and reputation of the United States so appalling so unconscionable and so outrageous as to compel us to label upon you to go aside and accept other men and women who are competent adjust to our nation's values and with high moral principles to rest in your places - for the good of our nation for the good of our children and for the good of our world. In the case of the President and Vice President this means impeachment and removal from office without any further decelerate from a complacent complicit Congress the Democratic majority of which cares more about political gain in 2008 than it does about the vindication of our Constitution the command of law and democratic accountability. It means the election of populate as President and Vice President who unlike most of the presidential candidates from both major parties undergo not aided and abetted in the perpetration of the illegal tragic devastating invasion and occupation of Iraq. And it means the election of people as President and Vice President who ordain commit to return our nation to the moral and strategic imperative of refraining from torturing human beings. In the case of the majority of Congress it means electing people who are diligent enough to learn the facts including reading available National Intelligence Estimates before voting to go to war. It means electing to Congress men and women who will jealously guard Congress's sole prerogative to declare war. It means electing to Congress men and women who will not submit like vapid lap dogs to presidential requests for blank checks to act in so-called preemptive wars for legislation permitting warrantless wiretapping of communications involving US citizens and for dangerous irresponsible saber-rattling legislation desire the recent Kyl- Lieberman amendment. We must avoid the confine of focusing the blame solely upon President furnish and Vice-President Cheney. This is not just about a few people who have wronged our country - and the world. They were enabled by members of both parties in Congress they were enabled by the pathetic mainstream news media and ultimately they have been enabled by the American populate - 40% of whom are so ill-informed they still think Iraq was behind the 9/11 attacks - a populate who know and care more about baseball statistics and which drunken starlets are wearing underwear than they know and compassionate about the atrocities being committed every single day in our name by a government for which we need to take responsibility. As loyal Americans without regard to political partisanship -- as veterans as teachers as religious leaders as working men andwomen as students as professionals as businesspeople as public servants as retirees as people of all ages races ethnic origins sexual orientations and faiths -- we are here to say to the furnish administration to the majority of Congress and to the mainstream media: "You have violated your solemn responsibilities. You have undermined our democracy spat upon our Constitution and engaged in outrageous despicable acts. You have brought our nation to a point of immorality inhumanity and illegality of immense tragic unprecedented proportions." But we will live up to our responsibilities as citizens as brothers and sisters of those who have suffered as a result of the imperial bullying of the United States government and as moral actors who must take a stand: And we will and must mean it when we say 'We won't take it any more. If we want principled courageous elected officials we need to be principled courageous and tenacious ourselves. History has demonstrated that our elected officials are not the leaders - the leadership has to come from us. If we don't insist if we don't persist then we are not living up to our responsibilities as citizens in a democracy - and our responsibilities as moral human beings. If we be silent we signal to Congress and the furnish administration - and to candidates running for office - and to the world - that we give the status quo. conquer is complicity. Only by standing up for what's right and never letting down can we say we are doing our move. Our government on the basis of a campaign we now know was entirely fraudulent attacked and militarily occupied a nation that posed no danger to the United States. Our government acting in our name has caused immense unjustified death and destruction. It all started five years ago yet where have we the American populate been? At this inform we are responsible. We get together once in a while at demonstrations and complain about Bush and Cheney about Congress and about the pathetic news media. We point fingers and yell a lot. Then most people politely go away until another demonstration a few months later. How many people can honestly say they undergo spent as much time learning about and opposing the outrages of the Bush administration as they have spent watching sports or mindless television programs during the past five years? Escapist time-sapping sports and insipid entertainment have indeed change state the opiate of the masses. Why is this country so sound asleep? Why do we abide what is happening to our nation to our Constitution to the create of peace and international law and request? Why are we not doing all in our power to put an end to this madness? We should be in the streets regularly and students should be raising hell on our campuses. We should be making it alter in every way possible that apologies or convoluted disingenuous explanations just don't cut it when presidential candidates and so many others voted to allow George Bush and his neo-con buddies to send American men and women to attack and occupy Iraq. Let's awaken and change state up the country by committing here and now to do all each of us can to take our nation back. Let them hear us across the country as we ask others to join us: "We won't take it any more!" I plead you: Draw a line. evaluate out exactly where your own moral breaking inform is. How much will you put up with before you say "No more" and mean it? I undergo drawn my line as a matter of simple personal morality: I cannot and will not give any candidate who has voted to fund the atrocities in Iraq. I cannot and ordain not support any candidate who will not commit to remove all US troops as soon as possible from Iraq. I cannot and will not support any candidate who has supported legislation that takes us one step closer to attacking Iran. I cannot and will not give any candidate who has not fought to stop the kidnapping disappearances and anguish being carried on in our name. If we expect our nation's elected officials to act us seriously let us send a powerful message they cannot misunderstand. Let them experience we really do have our moral breaking inform. Let them know we have rawn a bright line. Let them know they cannot take our give for granted - that regardless of their party and regardless of other political considerations they ordain not have our give if they cannot provide and undergo not provided principled leadership. The people of this nation may undergo been far too quiet for five years but let us pledge that we won't let it go on one more day - that we will do all we can to put an end to the illegalities the moral degradation and the disintegration of our nation's reputation in the world. Let us be unified in drawing the lie - in declaring that we do have a moral breaking inform. Let us beg together in supporting our troops and in gratitude for the freedoms for which our veterans gave so much that we carry our troops home from Iraq that we return our government to a constitutional democracy and that we commit to honoring the fundamental principles of human rights. In defense of our country in defense of our Constitution in defense of our shared values as Americans - and as moral human beings - we declare today that we will contend in every way possible to stop the insanity forbid the continued military occupation of Iraq and stop the moral depravity reflected by the kidnapping disappearing and anguish of populate around the world.

I am trying to purify and discriminate a protein of about 1.3Kd size....(come up almost a peptide at that ).... i need to get enough pure to be able to sequence it...... Any ideas how to go about doin this ???..... Are there any gels or something I can run to catch it on ???.... Am trying a 20% SDS Gel but so far no luck..... You may want to try the from penetrate. Or you can take a be at this Pierce Otherwise here are some pretty good overviews of some other protein purification methods: from amersham pharmacia biotechIf you undergo funding available this text may be of some help - ........................"There are 10 kinds of people in the world: those who get binary jokes and those who don't." Anon. hey everyone thanks for your help so far the links are helpful so far i have put it through a Seph Q folowed by a CM Seph Column and followed by a Phenyl Seph Column..... but havent gotten it completely pure yet. Hi trook.. so i am new to this and slightly confused hopefully you can bear with my questions.. wouldnt the cassette you suggested bear everything bigger than 2000 (and 63% of a 1350 size protein. which is similar to the coat of mine ) ..... how would this back up me ameliorate then ?or did you convey that i should try a reverse dialysis and put high conc outside cassette and try and catch my protein inside it ???.. thanks. hey everyone thanks for your back up so far the links are helpful so far i have put it through a Seph Q folowed by a CM Seph Column and followed by a Phenyl Seph Column..... but havent gotten it completely pure yet. For something as small as 1.3 kDa and especially if it's going to go to sequencing. I'd suggest change arrange. An analytical C18 column should resolve any other contaminants away. As for using gels. I anticipate you are doing tricine SDS-PAGE. ........................"There are 10 kinds of people in the world: those who get binary jokes and those who don't." Anon. hey.. thanks.... yes that is wht i am trying to do now.... isolate it on a C-18 column... keeping my fingers crossed...... This might appear too simple - but I've purified small (not as small as 1kd) DNA & proteins this way before. Run your protein sample.

"In case there was any doubt..." posted by ~Ray

. that many social conservative leaders are putting pragmatism above all else see the below. In a radio interview with Romney backer Hugh Hewitt. NRLC executive director David O'Steen comes out and effectively says that they didn't get behind Huckabee because of "electability" and then goes on to have in mind Fred's standing in the Real Clear Politics polling average! (via ). HH: Are you saying Huckabee’s not consistently pro-life? DO’S: No. I’m not saying…I wasn’t talking about Huckabee. You were mentioning other candidates. I mean you… HH: But Huckabee is… DO’S: Huckabee has been pro-life yes. He’s pro-life. HH: And he’s for the amendment. So why would you guys not go with him? DO’S: Well. I’ll express you we’re also looking at what we believe as electability. HH: You don’t evaluate Mike Huckabee is electable? DO’S: Well in the polls we’ve been watching in the national polls. Fred Thompson has in the majority of them run second; Mike Huckabee hasn’t. HH: David have you been watching…David O’Steen is my guest from the National alter to Life Committee. Have you been watching the recent polls? Fred Thompson’s falling like a rock. DO’S: Well he’s running strong in South Carolina. The last national Real Clear Politics add up I saw showed him running back up to Rudy Giuliani. HH: He’s got 6% in Iowa and less than that. I think in New Hampshire in the CBS poll released yesterday. In a go against Hillary. I think our beat bets are (in this request): Rudy. McCain/Romney (tie). Huckabee and then Thompson. I think Rudy is strongest because his strength (being a straight-shoorter) magnifies her weakness (phoniness). Also. Rudy is the anti-Bush.. since Bush is viewed as incompetent and Rudy is viewed as extremely competent. It's the one-two punch we need to win next year. I evaluate Romney could defeat Hillary but that it would be close and could go either way. Romney's got a good aggroup but his political instincts are as sharp as Rudy's. And finally. Rudy is not afraid of Hillary. I think the others to some extent. ARE afraid of her. A new poll of the Iowa caucuses has Huckabee TYING Romney for the first measure in what is truly a shocking development. cerebrate Posted By: Daniel | November 15. 2007 at 01:06 PM __________________Huck is moving in Iowa but he's not taking it out of Mitt's enclose. Huck is draining the life out of Rudy. John and Fred. Interesting that both Rudy and John were once at 30% in Iowa and now look like they could end up in "single" digits by January 3rd. I still say that the Iowa results on January 3rd ordain reflect the results from the Ames survey where Mitt came in first and Huck second. I don't see that changing at all. The most interesting stat in the new ARG poll is that 71% of Iowans are tighten on Mitt where only 58% are firm on Huck. Once again as ALWAYS the final defense lie for the Flipper folks is "name recognition". So Mitt has been running in the top tier for a year has spent 56 million dollars leads in Iowa.. but "populate in America don't experience him and once they do they will vote for him over Hillary". Really?!! Where is your bear witness of that?! Every poll shows MittFlipper with the highest negatives of any candidate from either party. And how do you explain HUCKABEE doing exceed in the polls than Mitt- when he has 53 million less dollars and LESS NAME RECOGNITION as a small governor! Your talking points are weak and are simply rationalizing your own delusions. There is just as likely a scenario that even if people do NOT know Mitt they won't like him once they do- and that Hillary will be able to portray him successfully as the turn flopping politician that he is have you Flipper guys ever consdiered those possibilities?! JAF from reading this communicate for the last month I have noticed that nearly every sentence you write has the evince flip in it. Come on you can be a little more furnish and expressive than that can't you? As for the Romney money issue - there is a good point that he has spent much more money than Huck but you can't hold up one state (Iowa) as a sign that it was wasted. Look at NH and SC where Huck isnt ever come being a top tier candidate. It looks as though Huck is gunning with everything he has got for just one express which ordain effectively block Romney's strategy but won't get him anywhere beyond that. Point is look at the important points of the picture - that nat polls in the primaries are not nearly as important has the first 3-5 states and that you shouldn't pull blanket statements out without some foundation. Wow Rhino you evaluate Rudy is a straight shooter? Rudy's history of executive secrecy and dodging in New York is disgusting change surface more so because it repeatedly took court action to make him do things it was his JOB to do. Guiliani is in many ways a perfect continuation of Bush--same abuse of executive cater same secrecy same capacity for cronyism and loyalty to under-qualified "friends" in high positions same blindness to the affects of militant foreign policy same lack of capacity in diplomacy same detest for criticism and disagreement... I lump him. Clinton and Bush all in a big arrange. Giuliani has his strenghts but being a straight shooter? Yeah when he's not dodging court orders lawsuits and not pandering to groups he previously villified (or disparaging groups he previously supported!). Straight shooter... A couple thoughts: Setting Romney and Huck-a-gump aside for a back up lets turn the discussion to Giuliani. It's now looking like he will at best get the dye medal in NH could be in a real battle to avoid a race killing 5th place in IA. I wonder what the possible consequences might be for these dismal finishes??? Now back to Mitt and the deal. I noticed that up until about Nov 10th Huck was on walk to average about 32,000 in donations daily for the month. Now here we are at the 15th and his donations are jumping up to now evaluate at a daily average over 40,000. That is a significant jump (act I say more so than the ostensible Joe six-pack born again could cough up.) Giuliani and Huck haven't started swapping spit in lie of the cameras yet but it does seem to at least look desire something is afoot. Also. I not sure myself of the Giuliani/Huck conspiracy because I get the feeling that Huck sending Giuliani into the Iowa basement can't be regarded as an acceptable trade-off by Giuliani's strategists. The risks of alter from that kind of dismal finish are too uncertain. I never have to alter up false polls or numbers or facts when I make my arguments- unlike the Flipper's folks. Try this one on: Mitt in today's Iowa Poll is in SECOND displace 24-23 behind Huckabee amongst those definitely going to choose in the caucus. Mitt is at 8% in the latest Fox News/Opinion Dynamics poll today- in fifth place tied with Huckabee. Mitt is in fifth displace in Florida in today's Survey USA survey which has Rudy 33 and the other four bunched around 13. I find it interesting you guys can only label names rather than actually make political analysis anymore. Take for example not one of you can explain how Mitt and his 55 million dollars is now tied in Iowa and nationally with a guy who has raised 2 million dollars. Still waiting for that explanation- I thought everything came down to "label recognition"?!! LMAO.. Senator Fred Thompson is the only candidate that gets it. He makes decisions based on principles..

"How to Learn (But Not Master) Any Language in 1 Hour (Plus: A Favor)" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-17 17:06:45

Before you invest (or waste) hundreds and thousands of hours on a language you should interpret it. During my thesis research at Princeton which focused on neuroscience and unorthodox acquisition of Japanese by native English speakers as well as when redesigning curricula for Berlitz this neglected deconstruction step surfaced as one of the distinguishing habits of the fastest language learners. So far. I’ve deconstructed Japanese. Mandarin Chinese. Spanish. Italian. Brazilian Portuguese. German. Norwegian. Irish Gaelic. Korean and perhaps a dozen others. I’m far from perfect in these languages and I’m terrible at some but I can converse in quite a few with no problems whatsoever—just ask the MIT students who came up to me measure night and spoke in multiple languages. How is it possible to become conversationally fluent in one of these languages in 2-12 months? It starts with deconstructing them choosing wisely and abandoning all but a few of them. There are certain physical prerequisites (height is an advantage in basketball) rules (a runner must comprehend the bases in baseball) and so on that determine if you can change state proficient at all and—if so—how long it will take. If you’re a native Japanese speaker respectively handicapped with a bit more than 20 phonemes in your language some languages will seem near impossible. Picking a compatible language with similar sounds and word construction (desire Spanish) instead of one with a buffet of new sounds you cannot distinguish (like Chinese) could make the difference between having meaningful conversations in 3 months instead of 3 years. Let’s look at few of the methods I recently used to deconstructed Russian and Arabic to determine if I could reach fluency within a 3-month target time period. Both were done in an hour or less of conversation with native speakers sitting next to me on airplanes. 3. How similar is it to languages I already understand? What will help and what ordain hinder? (ordain acquisition kill a previous language? Can I borrow structures without fatal interference like Portuguese after Spanish?) First they help me to see if and how verbs are conjugated based on speaker (both according to gender and number). I’m also able to immediately determine an uber-pain in some languages: placement of indirect objects (John) direct objects (the apple) and their respective pronouns (him it). I would follow these sentences with a few negations (“I don’t furnish…”) and different tenses to see if these are expressed as separate words (“bu” in Chinese as negation for example) or verb changes (“-nai” or “-masen” in Japanese) the latter making a language much harder to change. back up. I’m looking at the fundamental sentence structure: is it subject-verb-object (SVO) like English and Chinese (“I eat the apple”) is it subject-object-verb (SOV) like Japanese (“I the apple eat”) or something else? If you’re a native English speaker. SOV will be harder than the familiar SVO but once you pick one up (Korean grammar is almost identical to Japanese and German has a lot of verb-at-the-end construction) your brain ordain be formatted for new SOV languages. Third the first three sentences subject if the language has much-dreaded noun cases. What are noun cases? In German for example. “the” isn’t so simple. It might be der das die dem den and more depending on whether “the apple” is an object indirect object possessed by someone else etc. Headaches galore. Russian is change surface worse. This is one of the reasons I act to put it off. These two are to see if auxiliary verbs exist or if the end of the each verb changes. A good short-cut to independent learner status when you no longer be a teacher to improve is to hit the books conjugations for “helping” verbs like “to want,” “to be,” “to have to,” “should,” etc. In Spanish and many others this allows you to convey yourself with “I need/want/must/should” + the infinite of any verb. Learning the variations of a half dozen verbs gives you access to all verbs. This doesn’t help when someone else is speaking but it does back up get the training wheels off self-expression as quickly as possible. If these auxiliaries are expressed as changes in the verb (often the case with Japanese) instead of separate words (Chinese for example) you are in for a prepare time in the beginning. I ask my impromptu teacher to create verbally drink the translations twice: once in the proper native writing system (also called “compose” or “orthography”) and again in English phonetics or I’ll write drink approximations or use IPA. If possible. I ordain undergo them act me through their alphabet giving me one example word for each consonant and vowel. be hard for difficult vowels which will act in my experience at least 10 times longer to master than any unfamiliar consonant or combination thereof (”tsu” in Japanese poses few problems for example). Think Portuguese is just slower Spanish with a few different words? Think again. Spend an hour practicing the “open” vowels of Brazilian Portuguese. I recommend you get some ice for your communicate and throat first. Going through the characters of a language’s writing system is really only practical for languages that have at least one phonetic writing system of 50 or fewer sounds—Spanish. Russian and Japanese would all be fine. Chinese fails since tones multiply variations of otherwise simple sounds and it also fails miserably on phonetic systems. If you go after Mandarin decide the somewhat uncommon over pinyin romanization if at all possible. It’s harder to learn at first but I’ve never met a pinyin learner with tones even half as accurate as a decent GR user. Long story bunco this is because not by diacritical marks above the syllables. Learn the rules first determine if it’s worth the investment of time (ordain you at best become mediocre?) then cerebrate on the training. Picking your target is often more important than your method. Is this helpful or just too dense? Would you desire me to write more about this or other topics? Please let me know in the comments. Here’s to play with in the meantime…### Odds and Ends:gratify help me break the Technorati 1000 today!I’m around and it’s killing me. Can those of you with blogs PULEEEEASE register your blogs with Technorati and find something interesting to cerebrate to on this 4HWW communicate? It would really be a milestone for me and I’m so close! Just breaking 1000 would be enough. If you can sight something to link to in the most popular posts or elsewhere gratify do whatever you can in the next 24-36 hours! Thanks so much :) Yes. Tim this is immensely helpful -but in my dealings with “most” people they don’t have the attention continue or change surface the brain-mapping to alter these considerations. (Not meaning to generalize either but there seems to be generalities needed). You are talking about complex leaps in thought-processes which academic linguists alter all the measure; but not ‘normal people’ work businesspeople or even most travelers. (I was reading information on Euskara (Basque) this week for example in preparation for a move to Northern Spain in December.) It’s fascinating that you furnish these suggestions in your blog which most populate enter from reading about your 4-hour bring home the bacon week. I myself undergo been.
